چکیده

John B. Masiunas Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, University of Illinois, 1201 West Gregory Drive, Urbana, IL 61801 Field experiments were conducted to quantify functional relationships between giant ragweed density and sweet corn yield and ear traits. A rectangular hyperbolic model was fit to yield loss measured in terms of marketable ear mass, appropriate for the processing industry, and boxes of 50 marketable ears, relevant to the fresh market industry. The initial slope of the hyperbolic yield loss function (I ), which describes the linear portion of yield loss as weed density (weeds per square meter) approaches zero, was 119 for loss of ear mass and 97 for loss of boxes of ears. Furthermore, 10 of 12 ear traits including green ear mass, husked ear mass, ear length, filled ear length, ear width, number of kernels per row, number of rows, kernel depth, kernel mass, and kernel moisture content were significantly affected by giant ragweed interference.

Nitrogen Fertilizer and Crop Residue Effects on Seed Mortality and Germination of Eight Annual Weed Species

Weed seed persistence in the soil seedbank is central to weed population dynamics; however, limited knowledge of mechanisms regulating seed survival in soil remains an obstacle to developing seed-bank management practices. Weed seeds are rich in carbon and nitrogen, and therefore may represent an important nutritional resource to soil microbes. The objective of this study was to test the hypoth...

Growth Stage Affects Dose Response of Selected Glyphosate-Resistant Weeds to Premix of 2,4-D Choline and Glyphosate (Enlist DuoTM Herbicide*)

With the intent to control glyphosate–resistant and hard to control weeds, a formulation of 2,4-D choline (24.4%) and glyphosate (22.1%) (Enlist DuoTM herbicide) (Note 1) has been developed recently to be used post-emergence in corn and soybean tolerant to Enlist DuoTM in the United States. Dose response studies were conducted under greenhouse conditions for the evaluation of effective rates of...

Interaction of 2,4-D or Dicamba with Glufosinate for Control of Glyphosate-Resistant Giant Ragweed (Ambrosia trifida L.) in Glufosinate-Resistant Maize (Zea mays L.)

Glyphosate-resistant (GR) giant ragweed is a problematic broadleaf weed in crops including maize and soybean in the Midwestern United States. Commercialization of crops with 2,4-D or dicamba and glufosinate resistance will allow post-emergence (POST) applications of these herbicides. Therefore, information is needed on how 2,4-D/dicamba will interact with glufosinate in various rate combination...
